The Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the states will have to supply law enforcement security to those couples who worry for their life since they did inter-caste or inter-gotra marriage.
Previously in February, the best court docket cracked a whip versus Khap Panchayats in relationship with situations pertaining to so-identified as honour killing.
The apex court docket told the Khap Panchayat to “not become conscience keepers” as the “law will choose its personal course”
While hearing the make any difference, the apex court docket told the advocate representing Khap Panchayats that “it is the courts to determine, if marriages are legally legitimate or not.”
It also pulled up the Khap Panchayats for using the law into their personal fingers in the identify of so-identified as honour killing.
Previously on January 16, the apex court docket rapped the Centre for failing to prevent assaults on couples, who did inter-caste marriages.
The 3-decide bench, headed by Main Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, mentioned, “If the Centre does not act versus Khap Panchayats, then the court docket will move in.”
The apex court docket also observed that “no Khap Panchayat or modern society can question” if an adult gentleman and lady opt for an inter-caste relationship. (ANI)
