The Centre on Thursday advised the Supreme Court that no hurt will be performed to the mythological Ram Sethu for its Sethusamudram Ship Channel job.
The Centre apprised the apex court that it would refrain from touching the Ram Sethu in the “interest of the nation”, and that it will check out alternate routes to create the transport canal job ‘Sethasamudram’.
In an affidavit, the Union Ministry of Transport advised the apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra that the PIL submitted by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy against the Sethusamudram project can now be disposed off by getting note of its stand.
“That the governing administration of India intends to check out an alternate to the before alignment of Sethusamudram Ship Channel job with no influencing/harming the Adam’s Bridge/Ram Sethu in the curiosity of the country,” the affidavit submitted by the ministry claimed.
The Centre submitted the affidavit right after a plea was registered by Bhartiya Janata Celebration (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy.
The Sethasasamudram job included a proposal to minimise a ship’s journey by nearly 650 kilometers, by generating a canal in the Palk Strait, which would entail harming the Ram Setu to an extent.
Believed by Hindus as a bridge produced by Lord Rama’s ‘vanar sena’ to rescue his kidnapped wife Sita, the 50 kilometers long limestone bridge was not too long ago proved by the scientific neighborhood as staying man-produced and not in a natural way occurring.
Science Channel, as section of a promo for its present titled What on Earth, had interviewed an archaeologist who claimed, “The rocks on best of the sand basically pre-day the sand. So there is extra to the tale.” (ANI)
